Shopping for new things should be fun. Shopping for a new kitchen knife set was anything but fun. I wrote this article to help those who are going through the process right now and can maybe benefit from the mistakes that I made. In my opinion, most of the top knife sets out there are very high quality – there’s not a huge difference between them. The biggest difference is between stamped knives and forged knives.
It is a common misconception that forged knives are of higher quality or are better than stamped. While this is true in some ways, it is also true that stamped knives have their benefits as well. First, a stamped kitchen knife doesn’t weigh nearly as much as a forged one. Lightweight knives are considered a must by many professional chefs. This is especially true of chefs who concentrate on a lot of asian style foods. In order to effectively cut small vegetables and thin meets, light knives are necessary.
The main benefit of a forged knife is that it contains a thicker blade. This leads to better durability and can hold it’s edge a little longer than the others.
Forged kitchen knives are formed by hand and heated, formed, cooled, then heated again as many times as it takes to shape the blade. The steel is heated as high as 1900 degrees. The blades of stamped knives are cut out of a thinner piece of steel like the way a cookie cutter cuts out cookie dough.
The sharpness of the blade is not determined by the style of manufacturing but rather the grade of stainless steel. The better the stainless steel, the sharper the blade. You can tell very easily how high a grade the knives you are considering uses. Compare the prices of the knives to the other high quality ones on the market. The higher the price, the better the steel.

Lose Weight with New Kitchen Knives!
I have been overweight my entire adult life. From the time I was in my early twenties, up until about a year ago, (I am now thirty seven), I have gained weight steadily each year. It has not been a dramatic increase in weight, but rather about five to ten pounds every year.
It started when I went to college and I developed some really terrible eating habits. I ate a lot of fast food, a lot of pizza, and I can probably count on one hand how many times I cooked during those four years.
These bad habits continued into my life after college because I was so busy trying to start my career. It even continued after I got married and had kids. It was so hectic around dinner time that it was much easier to just get takeout instead of actually create a nutritious, home cooked meal for my family.
I realized what I was doing and decided to make a transformation. I was going to cook healthy, good meals for my family every night. This lasted about a month or so. I got so tired of cooking because it took so long to chop vegetables and cut meats that it was just too hard.
I saw a set of knives online one night that looked really cool. I bought them in hopes that they would make enough of an improvement in the time it took to make dinner that I would get back into the swing of things. They did!
The new knives I had bought were so fantastic, my prep time cutting and chopping was cut in half. I started cooking more and more and I cooked all healthy meals. After a year, I have lost almost twenty pounds without effort. I am just eating what I cook. I think this is a great way to lose weight.
